THERAPY

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Individual Therapy is a process that focuses on growth and change. Talking about our issues and understanding our feelings paves the way to becoming more aware of the source of our struggles and painful feelings. This awareness allows us to perceive and create options in our lives, of which you may not have been aware. It focuses on finding ways to deal more effectively with feelings, behaviors, relationships, and life’s challenges.

Within the first few sessions, you and your therapist will come to a mutual understanding of the goals for treatment. After this point, the sessions will become less like an interview; you talk about whatever is on your mind. Your therapist will listen and help you identify patterns of thinking, feeling, and interacting that may be contributing to your current struggles. Deeper awareness and new insights stimulate psychological growth and change.

Although treatment approaches vary depending on the therapist, the initial appointment often follows a general pattern. Therapy begins with a period of evaluation, during which you will discuss your reasons for seeking treatment. This process gives the therapist the opportunity to learn about you, develop an understanding of your struggles and formulate ideas about how treatment should proceed. During the initial sessions, factors such as frequency and length of sessions, as well as the policy for payment, will also be discussed.

In addition, you may have questions about medication. If the need arises, our therapists will assist you in finding a psychiatrist for a medication evaluation.

CHILD, ADOLESCENT, & TEEN THERAPY ā€‹

Childhood, adolescence, and teenage years are filled with many changes in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is a time of constant transition. Sometimes challenges arise that disrupt the developmental path. These challenges may stem from stressors such as school, parental discord, divorce, illness, learning difficulties, peer pressure, bullying, changing homes, and other transitions. Through the safety and trust established with The Life Changer Center’s therapist, children learn to identify the causes of their distress, identify and express their emotions, ask for help when needed, and improve their problem-solving abilities.

Each of our therapists seeks to create an environment where a child/adolescent/teen feels safe, protected, and appreciated. We then work to reduce the distress and increase your child's coping skills while at the same time identifying their strengths and growth areas. We work side-by-side with your child to expand their emotional vocabulary to express their feelings, develop positive ways to cope and thrive in their environments, and develop positive feelings about self.

The goals of therapy are individualized to the needs of each child, adolescent, or teen that comes to Care and Counseling. In general, we work to help your child become aware of the inner world of emotions and thoughts that often underlie symptoms. With this awareness, we then help your child develop ways of communicating these emotions and thoughts.

FAMILY THERAPYā€‹

Family therapy is a great way to rebuild relationships by learning new ways of problem solving and communication techniques. Family is important to our mental health, and if there is tension, therapy can be a great resource to address pain and heal a family's wounds. What distinguishes family therapy from individual counseling is its perspective or framework, not how many people are present at the therapy session. This type of counseling views problems as patterns or systems that need adjusting instead of viewing problems as residing in the person. People who participate in family therapy sessions learn more about themselves and about how their family functions.

Family therapists work with families to heal emotional and/or psychological problems that range from mild disturbances to situations that are tearing them apart. The specific goals of family therapy depend on the problems being experienced. To help a family maintain a healthy, harmonious life together, family therapists focus on improving communication, solving family problems, understanding and handling special family situations, and creating a better functioning home environment.
